Port Training Workshop held in Peru
Financed by CAF, the objectives of the workshop are to offer six seminar sessions with the latest theoretical and practical elements on port development strategies and plans; describe and analyze positive experiences of port development; discuss the material presented with the participants; analyze in detail the experiences that are most useful in the Peruvian situation; and establish the criteria for preparation of analyses, studies and proposals for port development in Peru, especially El Callao port.
The training, which ends June 2, will cover the following areas: evolution of maritime transport and port traffic; traditional and new port functions; organization of the port system and the powers of European port authorities; port logistic activity zones (LAZ) (logistic functions and socioeconomic impact); and city-port relations, city planning and environmental improvements in the vicinity of El Callao port. The workshop confirms CAF’s commitment to infrastructure development in Peru and the Latin American region. Previously CAF had financed and coordinated the El Callao Port Competitiveness Study, prepared by ALG consultants with the objective of analyzing the container market, defining infrastructure scenarios, and proposing development alternatives and competition models to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of Peru’s main port.
