On this occasion, OEIN will perform “La Permanencia” of composer Canela Palacios and “La Ciudad” of Cergio Prudencio.
The Chaxis de Santiago de Llallagua ensemble formed by 26 musicians, natives of Aroma province in La Paz department, will perform, accompanied by a dozen women singers, an extensive repertory of autochthonous melodies, making use of the traditional chaje or chaxi., The ensemble has rescued this instrument, considered part of the cultural heritage, from imminent disappearance.
Cergio Prudencio will give a brief talk on the music of the Altiplano and its characteristic instruments, and Máximo Mamani, representative of the Chaxis, will talk about the distinctive features of their music which has emerged from the ancestral tradition of the region.
