Workshop analyzes problems of urban transport in Peru
- CAF and MTC invited leading Latin American experts and local authorities to participate in the International Workshop on "Institutional Organization for Urban Transport."
- The event fostered dialogue and cooperation on key issues in the field of transport, such as: institutional organization, coordination between levels of government, regulatory aspects, and modal integration.
The event was opened by Eleonora Silva Pardo, CAF director representative in Peru; and Henry Zaira, director of the Office of Planning and Budget of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), in the JW Marriott Hotel Lima.
The CAF official said the economic growth of the country created an urgent need to stimulate more and better public and private investment in the city, especially in urban transport infrastructure, if the objective was to develop competitive cities.
The positive development of the economy opens possibilities for transforming urban public transport systems, especially in the case of Lima, as well as other large Peruvian cities, where efficiency, safety and quality of service need to be improved, she added.
"In this meeting of reflection, CAF is promoting dialogue between all the actors and building a consensus of ideas and proposals on the issues of institutional organization in the field of transport and urban mobility."
Silva added that the Central Government and Lima City Government had been making efforts to transform the city’s transport system, an effort which is reflected in the development of two mass-transit transport systems: the Electric Train and the Metropolitan.
Participants in the workshop discussed the topics: "Experience in Europe: Madrid Regional Transport Consortium," presented by Ricardo Perez Cobo (Spain); "International Experiences in Organization and Institutional Management" by Eduardo Vasconcellos (Brazil) and Edgar Sandoval (Colombia); and "Metropolitan Institutionalization, Institutional Coordination and Mobility Management" and "Evolution of Institutions in the Urban Mass Transport Sector: Outlook, Challenges and Proposals for Lima," from the consultants Alicia Ribera (Argentina) and Julio César Chávez (Peru), respectively.
Other participants in the event included officials from the ministries of Transport and Communications, and Economics and Finance, accompanied by elected officials from the local and regional governments of Lima and Callao.

CAF-FAO: Digitization project for agribusiness with repository launch
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), CAF -development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean-, the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries and the Tobago House of Assembly celebrated the successful completion of the “Digitization and Innovation for the Competitiveness and Sustainability of the Agribusiness Sector in Trinidad and Tobago” project. The closing ceremony, that took place on the 29th of July, marked a significant milestone in the country's efforts to modernize and enhance the agricultural sector.
