More and better energy for Paraguayans
The objective of the program "Support for the transmission and distribution network of the National Interconnected System, executed by Ande and financed by CAF, is to develop an electricty transmission system that increases the supply of electricity in Paraguay.
In 2010, the Government of Paraguay announced a series of actions to promote improvement in the quality and coverage of electricity services through the development of an infrastructure aimed at expanding coverage, reducing losses, and mitigating the effects of climate change.
In that context, CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, approved a loan for USD 75 million to the Administracion Nacional de Electricidad (Ande)(National Electricity Administration), executing agency of the project, so that in the long term it may develop an electricity transmission system that increases the supply of energy in Paraguay.
The program "Support for the transmission and distribution network of the National Interconnected System" will reinforce the East system, adapt the existing substations, build new substations, and reassess the transmission lines in order to address the electric energy requirements and the expansion of the service in the areas of influence.
It is expected that in coming years the execution and management of the program will effectively address the demands of three sub-systems. The East system is made up by the departments of Canindeyu and Alto Parana. The Central system is made up by the departments of San Pedro, Caaguazu, Guaira and Caazapa. The Metropolitan system is made up by the departments of Cordillera, Central and Paraguari.
