320 youths are trained in carpentry and dressmaking
Opportunities and competences for low income youths are offered by the Centro del Muchacho Trabajador (Center for Working Youths), which is in a phase of institutional strengthening to become a self sustainable organization.
For theCentro del Muchacho Trabajador(CMT, for its acronym in Spanish), training is a strategic element for organizational success. Based on this precept, the Center currently trains 320 youths so that they may insert themselves in the labor market once they have finished their training as artisans.
The beneficiaries of this training are low income youths that attend dressmaking and carpentry workshops. The objective is to guarantee the labor insertion of at least 90% of the graduates, who will have gained useful knowledge to become productive.
CAF participates in this initiative for the development of the project "Strengthening the CMT's Artisan Training Program for the labor and productive insertion of its graduates", incorporating processes that simultaneously connect the theoretical and practical learning in the areas of production and marketing.
To achieve the proposed objective, work is being carried out to strengthen the installed capacity of the CMT's learning-production workshops, creation of real productive environments which are competitive in terms of quality and production time, and marketing channels in accordance with the reality of the national market.
During the last month, the materials that have been acquired enable the students to incorporate themselves to productive processes where they experience the industrial practice focused on an assembly line production sequence and associate it with entrepreneurial practice.
This is considered a pilot project that may be implemented in other countries, seeking to establish relationships between the industry ad technical training centers.
