San Eduardo tunnels will improve mobility in Guayaquil
A reduction of traveling time for the inhabitants of the southwest and northeast sectors of the city constitutes the most important benefit of the construction of the San Eduardo tunnels.
The fast population growth of Guayaquil, the accelerated migration flow, the great industrial and commercial development, among other factors, have contributed to make the city one of the country's main development poles, which is reflected in the flow of vehicles and the increase in traveling times.
Ruben Perez, retail merchant and frequent traveler in the industrial sector of Guayaquil, states that with the construction of the San Eduardo tunnels traveling time has been reduced by at least 40 minutes compared to what it used to take him to reach his destination.
But not only people like Ruben, who have their own car, have benefitted from the construction of the tunnels. Those who do not own cars have also benefitted because other roads, where urban buses drive, experience less traffic jams. The same is true for the users of the Metrovia, who now have a new route of feeder buses.
The construction of works such as the San Eduardo Tunnels allow sectional governments such as that of Guayaquil to create complementary works in favor of the inhabitants through their development management model. Such is the case of the sports park which currently operates in the area adjacent to the tunnels, which used to be a garbage disposal area. In addition, works to tidy up and for urban communication in the area of influence are noteworthy.
The reduction of the environmental impact as a result of fewer gasses and vehicular noises is another aspect valued by the inhabitants that live close to the area of the tunnels. Undoubtedly, the most important contribution of this roadway is the strengthening of family ties due to the extra time that is available as a result of the reduction of traveling times.
