Airport technology speeds up documentation processes and luggage handling
The new International terminal at the El Dorado Airport, considered as the largest infrastructure work in Colombia, is the port of entry into the country, benefitting passengers, tourists, investors, and employees
1995 - 2013: it has taken over a decade to transform the airport into 104 thousand square meters of construction, agility, and effectiveness regarding flight and luggage information, safety systems, and modern technological equipment for more than one and a half million passengers that travel monthly using the new international terminal of El Dorado.
CAF disbursed USD 50 million for this project which is a new look for national and foreign tourists, as well as an entry door for investors coming to Colombia.
The use of state of the art devices has become the biggest achievement regarding decongestion, facilitating the airport's operations and providing agility and speed in the documentation processes. Raul Suarez, a frequent traveler who enjoys the immigration installations which now have 51 passenger service modules, says "Before, when I arrived to the immigration desk, I had to wait up to two hours for these processes. Now, the service takes about twenty minutes".
"Eduardo Gama, a shoeshine person who has been working in the terminal for 25 years and has been a witness of the changes is past years, says that "it has been a 100% transformation, really a wonderful thing". While Eduardo shines shoes, he listens daily to his clients comments on the work's impact: "These is what we needed, it is what we deserve".
The expansion of the number of luggage transportation bands has increased the transportation potential of luggage from 2,000 pieces per hour to 7,200 pieces, which reflects in speedy passenger services. This transformation benefits workers and thousands of new and frequent users. "The facilities are very comfortable and with the adequate space, one feels in an airport which may be compared to the best", says Angela Cubillos, a traveler.
