Space Industry Improves Connectivity and Inclusion
The development and launching into orbit of three satellites will provide support to the Internet connectivity programs in Argentina and neighboring countries, stimulating the national satellite industry.
There is an ongoing project for the development and launching of three geo-stationary satellites that will provide services to improve telecommunications and increase Internet connectivity in Argentina and the bordering territories.
The launchings of the satellites are expected for 2014, 2015 and 2017. In addition to its development, the project includes the implementation of the recently finished control station in the Province of Buenos Aires, and the facilities for the test and trail of the satellite systems, in the Province of Rio Negro.
The project has a strategic value for the country, as it takes advantage of the orbital positions assigned to Argentina, it stimulates the national scientific-technological system, and benefits its positioning as a reliable supplier of satellite services even to other countries.
The project promotes the connection to programs with social and strategic impact, providing support in areas that are far from the large urban centers. One example is thePlan Argentina Conectada(Connected Argentina Plan), which provides coverage and connectivity to education and telemedicine programs.
The program is led and financed by the state-owned Arsat S.A. (Argentinean Company for Satellite Solutions, Limited Company), which depends on the National Government. CAF has approved two loans for a total of USD 86 billion to support the execution.
