Urban mass transportation systems and clean development
The first urban mass transportation system accredited under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto protocol in the world, was developed by Transmilenio in Bogota and CAF; they also achieved the first certifications of emission reductions - CER - for this sector in the framework of the CDM.
This system contributes to the reduction of global warming and represents a new infrastructure conception and development for mass transportation in Colombia.
The new Transmilenio CDM project includes phases II to IV (does not include phase I), has 130 km. of dedicated lanes for 1,200 articulated buses, and 500 feeder buses with a capacity to mobilize 1.8 million passengers daily. Transmilenio is the mass transportation system of Bogota.
In 2012, Transmilenio, which is the main transportation system in the city, mobilized 547 million passengers. It contributes with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as a result of greater efficiency and better urban mass transportation technology.
The initiative is the first of this type worldwide within the CDM of the Kyoto Protocol, and its contribution to the environment is globally recognized. This is due to the application of an innovating methodology developed by CAF and Transmilenio which is a pioneer in mass transportation and urban mobility.
With a methodology approved by the Executive Board of the CDM, CAF demonstrated how CO2 emissions are reduced, and opened the space worldwide so that other mass transportation projects may participate in the mechanism. Currently, close to 11 projects in Asia and Latin America have been developed under this scheme. The Transmilenio project contributed with the reduction of 511,423 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) between 2006-2012. CO2 is the most abundant greenhouse gas in the planet.
Transmilenio's success has become a world model for urban mobility, which is being reproduced in different cities around the world. In Latin America, the following stand out: Metrobus in Mexico DF, BRT Macrobus in Guadalajara, Mexico, BRT Metroplus in Medellin, Colombia, BRT in Guatemala City, Metrovia in Guayaquil, and the Lima Metropolitano, among others.

The amount represents the largest international facility ever undertaken by Sicredi, with the involvement of four internationally renowned entities: Banco Finantia, BNP Paribas, Eco.business Fund, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). The funds raised can also be used in regions with a Human Development Index below the national average.
CAF-FAO: Digitization project for agribusiness with repository launch
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), CAF -development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean-, the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries and the Tobago House of Assembly celebrated the successful completion of the “Digitization and Innovation for the Competitiveness and Sustainability of the Agribusiness Sector in Trinidad and Tobago” project. The closing ceremony, that took place on the 29th of July, marked a significant milestone in the country's efforts to modernize and enhance the agricultural sector.
