Eleven projects improve the roadways of Guayaquil
Some of the objectives of the road construction and rehabilitation interventions are to improve the levels of service, decrease congestion, and reduce pollution in six areas of Guayaquil.
The eleven road projects that are a part of the Road Works Program in Densely Populated Areas of Guayaquil include: construction interventions, rehabilitation of the road infrastructure, construction of a food market, and additional civil works in several popular areas.
Among the benefits of these works are the following: improvement of the levels of service and reduction in vehicular congestion, reduction of air pollution and health improvements, connection between the neighborhoods and the city's service roads, and greater road safety.
The program was promoted by the Municipality of Guayaquil, and it is part of the investment plan for the development of the city's road network.
The projects are developed in low income areas that concentrate the city's most vulnerable population, particularly the Northeast (district of Pascuales), and Southeast and West (part of Tarqui, Febres Cordero, Latamendi and Ximena).
It is expected that the inhabitants of these sectors will have easier access to their homes, shopping areas, work, public services, and urban communities.
CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, specifically finances five of these projects in the areas of civil works, supervision and monitoring, and environmental management plan, for a total amount of USD 45 million.
This project is framed within CAF's strategies to support the efforts of regional governments in favor of their inhabitants and, in this specific case, to benefit the lower income population.
