CAF promotes a training program in ten regions of the country, in alliance with the Instituto de Gobierno y de Gestión Pública of the USMP (Government and Public Management Institute form the San Martin de Porres University).
The Program seeks to contribute with the governance of the people and transformation toward a more democratic and modern country.
(Lima, November 25, 2013).A total of 618 participants graduated from the VIII Leadership Program for Transformation, promoted by CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, and the Instituto de Gobierno y de Gestión Pública of the San Martin de Porres University, to strengthen citizen leadership in civic-democratic values in 12 decentralized headquarters in the country.
Eleonara Silva Pardo, CAF's Director Representative in Peru, participated in the closing ceremony, together with Alan Garcia Perez, Director General of the Institute, and Ivan Hidalgo Romero, coordinator of the same Institute.
Silva Pardo noted that for the eighth consecutive year, the multilateral entity executes the CAF Program Leadership for the Transformation of Peru, which includes training natural leaders who represent social, cultural, indigenous, farming, and union organizations, as well as associations of micro and small enterprises from 12 regions in the country.
CAF's Director Representative noted that the program was born in Colombia in 2002, and she pointed out that currently, the training aslo takes place in Bolivia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela, to identify, select, and train natural leaders to generate a transforming leadership that can manage tools to detect the needs of the community, as well as develop consensus and other actions that contribute to the exercise of a better citizenship, thus contributing to the governance of the people and transformation toward a more democratic country.
In addition, she added that the strategic value of the program lies in the importance that training has as a mechanism aimed at strengthening democratic governance, and improvement in the citizens' realities and their environment, leading their communities to achieve a better quality of life and better dialogue between the different stratums of society.
Silva Pardo stated that "from 2006 to 2013, 4,508 leaders from 25 regions in the country have graduated from this training program. Through the recurrent exercise carried out in the framework of the program as an effective activity of the leadership training, we estimate that due to the multiplier effect of the program, more than 8,000 citizens have been trained in Peru. Thus, CAF contributes with governance in the region and democratic training in our countries.
At the same time, Hidalgo Romero highlighted the CAF's support in the development of this eighth version of the training program which this year took place in Apurimac, Arequipa, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huanuco, Ica, Junin, La Libertad, Lima, Puno, San Martin and Ucayali.
