CAF Approves USD 222 Million for Paraguay Road Integration Projects
With these funds, the development bank of Latin America supports the program to improve integration corridors and road resurfacing, as announced by the Paraguayan government. Some 398 kilometers of roads in three departments bordering Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil will be repaired and resurfaced.
“Latin American countries need to develop a comprehensive vision of development, and in that sense, investment in improving their infrastructure is a priority, and CAF is determined to supporting its shareholders in this task,” said Enrique García, CAF executive president, who announced the approval of USD 222 million for the Republic of Paraguay. The program promotes an efficient production integration between the different regions of the country and between Paraguay and its neighbors, boosting local competitiveness by reinforcing its road network.
Projects include repair, refinishing and paving of 398 kilometers of roads on the national and departmental networks, in three departments bordering Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil.
The initiative also seeks to optimize traffic in the national and departmental road networks in three bordering departments in Paraguay, thus facilitating cargo transport in departmental, regional and international production corridors.
The total cost is approximately USD 285 million, 78% of which is funded by CAF, and the remaining 22% to be financed locally. The program combines investments in road infrastructure with initiatives to improve planning and conservation of Paraguay’s road network.
The roads under this program are National Route No. 9, in the Mariscal Estigarribia-La Patria and La Patria-Infante-Rivarola sections; Kilometer 40-Alberdi, and access to the city of Villa Oliva; and the Curuguaty-Villa Ygatimí-Ypehú road.
