Porvenir-Puerto Rico Highway will integrate the north of Bolivia with the rest of the country and connect it to Brazil and Peru
The construction of the work will have an impact on international trade and the economic growth of the area's populations. The project is a part of the Bolivia Roadway Plan and of the Porvenir-El Chorro Highway Project.
(Lima,December 3, 2013). With the goal of contributing with the social and economic development of the Bolivian north, CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, approved a loan for USD 139 million to the Plurinational State of Bolivia, to finance the construction of the Porvenir-Puerto Rico tranche, which is 133.3 kilometers long.
Enrique Garcia, CAF's Executive President, stated that "this work will enable the integration of the Department of Pando with the rest of the country, and its connection with Brazil and Peru, thus contributing with the physical integration of South America".
Garcia added that the project will improve the Bolivian logistic platform and will increase connectivity with other markets. "The road will facilitate access toward those departments and the provision of services for the populations of the area of influence in an area with great agricultural, livestock, agro-industrial, and tourism potential".
CAF is the main source of financing for road infrastructure in Bolivia. It has financed more than 4,500 kilometers of roads in the country, integrating regions and communities, from east to west and from north to south, enabling the border integration with Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru.
The project's total cost reaches USD 200 million, of which 70% will be covered by CAF's loan and 30% with resources from the local counterpart. The work is part of the country's National Development Plan, and its construction is essential to contribute with the internal connection of the Department of Pando and for the country's connection with neighboring nations.
This tranche is part of the Bolivian Roadway Plan and of the Porvenir-El Chorro Highway Project, a route that will be 319.3 kilometers long, and which will go through the regions of Porvenir, Bella Flor, Puerto Rico, El Sena, Blanca Flor, Reyes and Riberalta, enabling the connection with Bolivia's West-North road corridor.
