CAF, London School of Economics Holds Forum on Rise of the Global South
The First Annual CAF-London School of Economics Conference to Take Place on Friday, Jan. 17.
The Latin American development bank and the London School of Economics and Political Science will welcome authorities and academics from Latin America, Africa and Asia to participate in high-level discussions.

(London, Jan. 15, 2014)-On Friday, Jan. 17, the First Annual CAF-London School of Economics Conference, entitled "The Rise of the Global South: An agenda for A New Century" will take place in London.
The event, organized by CAF-development bank of Latin America-and the London School of Economics and Political Science will run under the framework of a strategic partnership established between both institutions in 2013. The conference aims to promote reflection on the dynamics of today's emerging-market economies and their impact on the fabric of a new international order.
Participants will analyze the rise of Southern economies in a global context, including interactions among emerging-market economies involved in South-South political and economic agreements as well the challenges facing the development of a strategic, forward-looking agenda. Authorities and academics from Latin America, Africa and Asia will participate at the event.
CAF Executive President Enrique García will chair the opening session alongside London School of Economics Director Craig Calhoun and Chris Alden, director of the Global South Unit in the school's International Relations Department.
Ibero-American Secretary General Enrique Iglesias will deliver the keynote address, while Moisés Naím, a recognized international analyst from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, will deliver the closing remarks.
Other noted participants include: Hiroshi Watanabe, president of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation; Bindu Lohani, vice president of the Asian Development Bank; Jean-Louis Ekra, president of the Afreximbank; Abdoulie Janneh, president of the African Institute of Governance; Carlos Ominami, former Economy minister and senator of Chile; Harinder Kohli, director of the Emerging Markets Forum; Osvaldo Rosales, director of the International Trade and Integration at ECLAC; and Martin Wolf, chief economics commentator of theFinancial Times, among other panelists.
