(Caracas, February 7th, 2014). Once again, the active participation of CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, in international capital markets, has been recognized be being selected for the MTN-i Awards as the Best Multi-Currency Private Placement Issuer(global and European chapter),and Best Landmark Deal(Asia Pacific chapter).
In its press release regarding the XIth edition of the awards, MTN-i said that "The XIth edition of our awards reflects yet another year of innovation and growth, and recognizes the endless creative forms in which private markets satisfied the demands of investors which could not be satisfied by public markets. The awards ceremony will take place in London, on February 13th.
The Best Multi-Currency Private Placement Issuer award was given to CAF for the diverse private transactions it placed not only in different formats and markets, but also in multiple currencies.
In fact, CAF carried out 16 bond issues during 2013, for an amount exceeding USD 2.6 billion, consolidating its belonging to a very select group of issuers, evidencing its catalytic role by attracting funds from diverse sources toward Latin America to promote commercial investments and opportunities in the region.
With respect to the Best Landmark Deal award, it is a result of the private placement carried out by CAF in the Hong Kong market in 2012, for HDK 940 million. With this transaction, it became the first Latin American institution to place bonds in Hong Kong since 2006, and the first multilateral institution since 2009.
The successful transaction reflected the continuous expansion of CAF's investor base in Asia, a region with which it has significantly strengthened links in past years, achieving an important intermediation of resources in favor of Latin America.
MTN-i specializes in gathering data regarding capital markets, focusing on notes, placements, and private multilateral commercial negotiations. It covers markets in the U.S., Europe, and Asia/Pacific.
