Brazil's Environment Ministry and CAF sign accord to address Climate Change
The accord will address biodiversity, forestry conservation and the sustainable use of water, among other issues.
Brazilian Environment Minister, Izabella Teixeira, and Enrique Garcia, executive president of CAF-development bank of Latin America-signed on Tuesday, March 25, an accord in Brasilia to address climate change, biodiversity, forestry conservation and the sustainable use of water. The agreement establishes cooperation by linking both institutions and facilitates collaboration efforts, including the exchange of information, experiences and research that strengthen plans to protect the region's environment.
"It pleases me greatly to sign this cooperation and expand the Environment Ministry's dialogue with various economic entities to discuss development issues," said Brazil's Environment Minister, Izabella Teixeira. "We are not seeking to discuss sustainability alone: we are addressing development issues, and we are working to build the foundation needed to create new policies within Brazil's Environment Ministry that focus on development."
INTERACTION
The accord doesn't involve the Brazilian government alone, Teixeira stressed. "We must expand our results and involve other governments and elements of society," she said. For CAF, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and the environment in Latin America serve as key components to economic development, which in the long run, improve society's quality of life, eradicate poverty and improve the spiritual wellbeing for all.
Latin American countries rely on CAF's support for their initiatives that spearhead and improve efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve national capacities, as well as bring about sustainable development at the international level. Support is provided via strategy and program initiatives as well as through financial channels.
