The opportunities of Latin America and ICTs
CAF carried out a diagnosis of 16 countries in the region to evaluate investment opportunities in infrastructure, human capital, and technical assistance issues.
In order to provide a scenario of the Information and Communication Technology sector (ICT) to the executors of public policies, a diagnosis of 16 countries of the region was carried out to evaluate the investment opportunities in subjects related to infrastructure, human capital, and technical assistance, among others, presented in a series of booklets.
Mauricio Agudelo, Principal Executive at CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, explained that "the idea is to understand how the demand for services and public policies in the sector evolve, and see what is being done in the digital agenda in each country, and compare it to what CAF does".
One of the findings of the research is that Latin America has the possibility of improving the training of human capital so that it may produce and get the contents and developments of wide band. Another opportunity is the expansion of the wide band infrastructure network.
"There is much to be done in the ICT sector which requires public investments aligned with the private sector, to reach the more distant regions of the 16 countries" commented Agudelo when pointing out that this series of booklets will show the cases that have advanced most in the region, as well as the best practices.
The booklets are part of a study conducted by CAF in 2013. The research included a multi-disciplinary team which carried out the interviews, field work, and developing statistics for the comprehensive development index of each country.
