Recommendations to make a patent
A patent is a document that guarantees the protection of an invention. Any person, with or without academic training, may make a patent
A patent is a commercial instrument. It is an exclusive right, a protection document that is given to the owner of an invention in the country where it is required. Any person, with or without academic training, may make a patent.
This year, CAF launched a regional initiative which seeks to promote the presentation, personal or institutional, of patentable technological concepts, as well as the creation of a Patent Incubator in Latin America.
To participate in this call for entry it is suggested that the concepts developed follow a strategy aimed at achieving international patents (through the Patent Cooperation Treaty, PCT, or USPTO). That is, there must be an idea of the problem to be solved and the environment, as well as of the possible solutions. Later, the technology has to be conceptualized developing the idea through explanatory drawings and diagrams. Finally, the idea has to be compared to the "prior art" to determine if the invention is "new".
It is advisable to have a patenting strategy, and that the technology to be conceptualized may be characterized for being:
- Novel
- Useful
- Original
- Legal
