VIII Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum will be held in Bogota

In order to disseminate knowledge, promote the exchange of information and experiences, and an environment of business opportunities in the carbon market, from September 3rd through 5th the VIII Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum (FLACC, for its acronym in Spanish), will be held in Bogota. This event will bring together international experts that will analyze the latest advances in the implementation of international policies regarding climate change, carbon pricing, and sustainable development, emphasizing development that is low in carbon and initiatives and schemes for emissions trading. 

The VIII edition is organized by the World Bank , the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade, for its acronym in Spanish), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the UNEP DTU Center, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and CAF, Development Bank of Latin America.  

The agenda includes seven plenary sessions, 14 workshops, and a series of parallel events organized by the speakers who will address topics such as opportunities to accelerate sustainable development in the region, instruments for carbon pricing, the role of the private sector and development banks to finance climate change, and policies and alternatives to revitalize the carbon market. In addition, discussions will be held regarding pricing of CO2 emissions reductions, initiatives for sustainable cities in Latin America, and proposals to reduce emissions and establish strategies for development that is low in carbon in sectors such as production and use of energy, transportation and industry, forests and agriculture, and management of residues. 

The FLACC is a regional platform created in 2006 to share information, discuss new trends, propose solutions, and create business opportunities. Previous editions included the participation of more than 800 individuals from the public and private sectors, multilateral and development banks, experts in the fields of policies and strategies for low carbon development, and project promoters, among others.
