Music touches 2,576 children, youths, and teachers in Peru
The Music to Grow program works with the network of choirs and orchestras of the Ministry of Education and the Sinfonia por el Peru (Symphony for Peru), lead by tenor Juan Diego Florez
Musical education is a tool to influence the comprehensive training of children and youths, especially in populations that have few beneficial alternatives for the use of free time.
In the past five years, the Musica para crecer (Music to Grow) program in Peru has trained 2,576 children, youths, and teachers. In the orchestral area, 1,526 children and youths, and close to 70 choral teachers have benefitted in Lima, Cusco, Huanuco, Puno, Trujillo, Huaraz and Cajamarca. In the choral area, the benefit reached 983 children and youths.
The initiative, promoted by CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, has worked to provide comprehensive training to children and youths with the network of choirs and orchestras of the Ministry of Education. Since 2011, work is being carried out with the Sinfonia por el Peru (Symphony for Peru), lead by renowned tenor Juan Diego Florez, who saw in the Youths and Children's Orchestra System of Venezuela a model to replicate in his country.
Some of the objectives of the program include support for the consolidation of its counterparts in each country, and increase the number of children and youths who participate. In the case of Peru, this component has enabled support this year for the development of a national meeting to coordinate and strengthen the musical training system in this country.
