Multilateral organizations get together to support the creation of the Inter-American Education System
The objective will be the promotion of improvements in the quality of education in the continent, as well as boosting research and the identification of effective public policies regarding education
Enrique García, Executive President of CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Alberto Moreno, President of the IDB, and Jorge Familiar, the World Bank's Vice-President for Latin America, subscribed an agreement in the framework of the VII Summit of the Americas in Panama City, for the creation of an Inter-American Education System. This proposal was sponsored by Juan Manuel Santos, President of Colombia.
The objective of the future Inter-American Education System will be the promotion of improvements in the quality of education in the continent, as well as boosting research and the identification of effective public policies regarding education.
Enrique Garcia stated, "Education plays an essential role in the generation of opportunities that determine improvements in the quality of life of the population, so that we believe in the need to join efforts to support and promote hemispheric initiatives that contribute to more equitable societies, a pending task in our region".
The international organizations agreed to define the work agenda and present the competencies of each entity in this initiative, aspects that will be included in a first report that will be delivered in 90 days.
