CAF supports development projects for productive sectors in Mexico

Enrique Garcia, Executive President of CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, held meetings with top government officials and signed seven agreements to support projects in productive sectors in Mexico, in the framework of the annual regional conference "CAF's Executive President ratified the existence of the Institution's permanent commitment with the country. He stated, "We are pleased to strengthen relations with Mexico through the signature of these cooperation agreements that will contribute with technical assistance, training, research, and generation and dissemination of knowledge in diverse areas of interest for the development of the region".
In the area of infrastructure, a cooperation agreement was established with the Instituto Mexicano de Transporte (Mexican Transportation Institute), with the purpose of supporting projects and programs related to technical assistance, technological innovation, and dissemination and transfer of knowledge, to promote development in the area of infrastructure and transportation and logistics systems in Latin America.
To improve energy efficiency in the industrial sector, with resources from the European Union's Latin America Investment Facility (LAIF) and the financing agreeement "Facility for Performance Based Climate Finance in Latin America", CAF will support the Energy Secretariat of the United States of Mexico (SENER, for its acronym in Spanish) in the design, development, and implementation of initiatives that promote energy efficiency measures and investments in technology that is low in emmissions in the industrial sector of Mexico.
In addition, CAF agreed to develop a sustainable urban transformation policy for Mexico City, with the Economic Development Secretariat (SEDECO, for its acronym in Spanish), with the purpose of developing a proposal through an open dialogue with diverse sectors: public and private, national and international, academic, social, entrepreneurial, industrial, and governmental.
With respect to public policies, competitiveness, and institutional development, the Institution signed an agreement with the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económica (Research and Economic Teaching Center), with the purpose of coordinating activities linked to the generation and dissemination of knnowledge, as well as the development of the first stage of the survey "Las Américas y el Mundo" (The Americas and the World), regarding the public opinion and culture of the inhabitants of the region in matters of foreign policy and international relations.
At the same time, CAF and the Tecnologico de Monterrey signed an agreement for the generation of knowledge in the region, in order to strengthen training, exchange, study, and applied research to benefit sustainable development and the integration of Mexico and Latin America.
Finally, to promote exchange between academics, public policy managers, and national and foreign institutions, the Institution and the Colegio de México (COLMEX) established a cooperation agreement which will promote the generation and dissemination of knowledge.
