CAF signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Regional Government of Ica and Sinfonia por el Peru (Symphony for Peru) to implement a musical training center as a tool for transformation
Enrique García, CAF's Executive President, Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, Governor of the region of Ica, and tenor Juan Diego Flórez, founder and President of Sinfonia por el Peru, signed the document committing to contribute in the implementation of the project with the support and commitment of the region's private sector.
Enrique García, CAF's Executive President expressed his satisfaction for the joint efforts with Ica's Regional Government and Sinfonia por el Peru through the signature of this Memorandum of Understanding, which will provide support to initiatives framed within the Music to Grow program, which has been promoting music as a tool for social inclusion and comprehensive education of Latin American children and youths for 15 years, especially for those living in vulnerable conditions.
He highlighted, "CAF has a strategic alliance with Sinfonia por el Peru, to expand the reach of the program in the country. With the subscription of this document today, we are once again consolidating our contribution to this initiative of great social impact, together with the Regional Government of Ica and the solidarity of the private sector".
Fernando Cilloniz Benavides, Governor of Ica, stated, "As a result of the volunteer work of private citizens and CAF's generosity, we are signing this Memorandum of Understanding where, Sinfonia por el Peru, directed by our renowned tenor Juan Diego Flórez, will start calling talented boys and girls who are passionate for music, to have the opportunity of showing their art. Through the Regional Government of Ica, we want to promote social responsibility projects that help improve the development of our children, and therefore, of the region. This could not be achieved without the support of the private sector".
"Music has the capacity to transform, to generate spiritual growth where there is material poverty, to empower and provide hope. With this in mind, five years ago we started the journey of Sinfonía por el Perú, a social project which seeks to provide hope to thousands of at-risk children and youths toward a better future and a more noble and fair society", stated tenor Juan Diego Flórez who, from the experience lived during his visit to different centers of the Sistema de Orquestas Infantiles y Juveniles de Venezuela (Children and Youth Orchestra System of Venezuela), took on the commitment of copying this experience in his country.
Sinfonía por el Perú has CAF's support, as well as that of Maestro José Antonio Abreu, founder of the Sistema de Orquestas Infantiles y Juveniles de Venezuela, and renowned celebrities such as Plácido Domingo, Monserrat Caballé, Gustavo Dudamel, and Mario Vargas Llosa, among others, in addition to institutions and companies. The project has had an extraordinary implementation for the past five years, changing the lives of more than two thousand children and youths of the most high-risk and vulnerable areas in this country. It has 13 centers, 3.500 families who have benefited, a Luthier workshop in Cuzco, and two official artistic groups: "Orquesta Sinfónica y Coro Infantil" (Symphonic Orchestra and Youth Choir). This work has received many recognitions, among them the Esteban Campodónico National Award, and the Crystal Awards of the 2014 World Economic Forum.
