INER 2015: Development of energy efficiency in Latin Americas
The objective of this event was to strengthen and develop scientific research in the area of energy efficiency and renewable energies in Ecuador and the region
The National Institute for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies (INER, for its acronym in Spanish) organized an event in Quito to promote energy efficiency in Latin America.
During the Congress "Research, Development, and Innovation in Energy Sustainability", David Delgado, advisor on Electricity and Renewable Energy at the Coordinating Ministry for Strategic Sectors, made an introduction to Ecuador's electric sector and reiterated that they are committed to the development of energy, highlighting that currently there are 8 hydroelectric plants under construction, implying energy savings, reductions in CO2 emissions, employment generation, and other benefits that favor Ecuador's sustainable development.
Juan Ríos, from CAF, presented the Regional Energy Efficiency Program and explained the opportunities presented by the region to strengthen the development of energy efficiency, the first being support for the creation of an energy efficiency market in all the countries of the region considering six key aspects:
- Promote sensitization workshops
- Publications regarding Energy Efficiency in Latin America
- Promote political dialogue
- Disseminate financing lines for Energy Efficiency
- Training to identify and develop Energy Efficiency projects
- Institutional support and technical assistance
CAF, with the cooperation of other regional institutions, leads a Regional Program for the development of a market of energy efficiency projects for Latin America. More information regarding the Regional Energy Efficiency Program
