La Paz 3600 10K race receives international recognition as a responsible sports event
The sport event is the first in the country to receive international certification from the Council for Responsible Sport
The VII version of the pedestrian race "La Paz 3600 10K", organized in Bolivia by CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, and co-organized by the Autonomous Municipal Government of La Paz and VIVA telephone company through its Viva Foundation, received international certification from the Council for Responsible Sport, which sponsors this sport event as responsible in environmental and social terms.
The Council for Responsible Sport is a non-profit organization founded in Oregon, United States, in 2007, with the objective of providing support for the development of socially and environmentally responsible sport events, and to certify practices that do not generate excessive environmental losses. It issues certification at three levels: Basic level, Silver Level, and Gold Level. The La Paz 3600 10K race, carried out on October 25th of last year, received Silver Level certification.
Emilio Uquillas, CAF's Director Representative in Bolivia, stated, "This certification is the second achieved by CAF. The first was granted to the 2015 CAF-Caracas Marathon, and this is the second, making it the first Bolivian sport event that has an environmental and social certification, granted by a certified and renowned organization at a world level. Thus, the race in the city of La Paz becomes a model for the organization of sport events in the country, the region, and the world".
Uquillas explained that it was CAF's decision to apply a series of practices focused on its social commitment of supporting the fight against all types of violence, as well as respect for the environment. He reminded that these practices were complemented with a responsible management of material resources, social inclusion, support for the local economy, measurement of the carbon footprint and water footprint, and an adequate management of residues, among others. "All of this enabled getting the certification" highlighted Uquillas.
This achievement places the La Paz 3600 10K race at the level of international competitions such as the Bank of America Chicago Marathon (USA, 2014 Silver Level), the Suissegas Milano Marathon (Italy, 2015 Gold Level), the Mexico City Marathon (Mexico, 2014 Gold Level), and the CAF Marathon in the city of Caracas (Caracas, 2015 Silver Level).
The event included the support of Grupo Financiero BISA, Powerade and the Princesa food company. Among the allies were AGB Bolivia, Imagenbol, and RaceStore. Droguería INTI, and Gimnasio GO.
In this context, and in order to share this experience, CAF has organized an exhibition of photographs and a video which reflect different passages, emotions, and sensations that were generated in the last pedestrian race organized in La Paz. The exhibition may be seen at Artespacio CAF starting on February 11th.
