New cycle of training in leadership and governance concludes successfully in Ecuador
In total, 320 Ecuadoreans, among them leaders from community organizations from the public and private sectors, government officials, and citizens in general, were trained during the 2015 edition of the programs
The 2015 edition of the Leadership for Change and Governance, Policy Management, and Public Management, promoted by CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, and executed by the Universidad de Cuenca and the Escuela Politecnica del Litoral (ESPOL), concluded successfully with the incorporation of 320 students.
Two closing ceremonies, held in Cuenca and Guayaquil, included the participation of Bernardo Requena, CAF's Director Representative in Ecuador; Lenin Parreño, Chief Economist at the Vice-presidency of Development Strategies and Public Policies; and Nathalie Gerbasi, Senior Executive of the Direction of Institutional Development. Both students and authorities of the educational centers showed their satisfaction for the successful closing of the programs, which are expected to impact on the country's development by helping the citizens become the main beneficiaries.
The programs laste six months, starting in July of 2015, and were aimed at leaders of community organizations, of the civil society, of the public and private sectors, of the provincial and local governments, of parochial authorities, and citizens in general.
Leadership for Change was developed in Cuenca, Loja, Chordeleg, Guayaquil, and Santa Elena, and was focused on generating leadership skills in participants, to allow them to change the political and social reality in the national, regional, provincial, municipal, and local spaces, with a sustainable development and equity approach.
Governance, Policy Management, and Public Management contributed to the development of the capacities of participants by means of a set of elements relative to the theory of governance, best practices in policy management, and the new public management (NGP, for its acronym in Spanish). The program was held in Loja, Cuenca, and Guayaquil.
From 2001 to 2004, a total of 40,770 citizens of countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela have received training in both programs. Of these, 27,000 correspond to the Leadership for Change Program, and 13,770 to the Governance, Policy Management, and Public Management Program.
Thus, CAF continues to deepen its institutional strengthening agenda under the strategic vision of generating knowledge, creating local capacities, and promoting opportunities to support member countries.
