USD 150 million to improve Paraguay's electricity network
The funds will contribute to address the increasing demand for electricity in the country, and to improve the reliability of the energy supply in the area of the Metropolitan System
CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, granted a loan for USD 150 million to the Republic of Paraguay, to increase its electricity transmission capacity and improve the distribution networks, thus reducing the vulnerability of the Metropolitan System, which concentrates 55 percent of the country's demand for electricity.
The funds, managed by the National Electricity Administration (ANDE, for its acronym in Spanish) through the project for the Improvement of the Electricity Transmission and Distribution System of the Metropolitan System, will be used for the expansion and improvement works for the transmission and distribution electricity networks, helping both citizens and the Paraguayan industry to have a more reliable and safer electric service.
Enrique Garcia, Executive President of CAF, stated "Investments in the electric sector are essential so that all Paraguayans may have access to a basic right such as electricity, in addition to improving the performance of the productive sectors and the country's competitiveness, which is very important in the current decelerating environment in the region".
In the framework of the project, 125 kilometers of transmission lines will be built, and changing conductors will strengthen 53 kilometers. This will be complemented with the construction of two substations and the expansion of a third. At the same time, 1,068 kilometers of half-tension and the same amount of low-tension conductors will be substituted. In addition, transformer stations will be strengthened to 370,400 kilowatts, through the installation of 3,704 distribution transformers, of 100 kilowatt each.
With this loan, the third granted to ANDE, CAF deepens it support to strengthen the electric sector of Paraguay, in a joint effort to promote quality and reliable electric energy services to the country.
