CAF offers immediate support for the victims of the earthquake in Ecuador
CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, approved an immediate donation of USD 200,000 to contribute to address the needs of the areas most affected by the earthquake, especially the coastal areas
In addition, the multilateral organization placed at the disposal of the Ecuadorean government a loan of up to USD 100 million to finance the permanent rehabilitation of the infrastructure and services most damaged by the earthquake during the past weekend.
Enrique García, CAF's Executive President, stated, "I would like to express our solidarity with the people of Ecuador in the face of the damages resulting from the earthquake that affected the country last weekend, causing sensitive losses of lives, hundreds of victims, and enormous material damages. In this respect, CAF is ready to provide all its support to achieve the country's fast recovery".
Among the contingent credit services to face extreme events related to climate, earthquakes, contaminating accidents, and epidemics in the region, CAF may approve loans in a fast and timely manner for its member countries, of which Ecuador is one.
These funds may be used to help the victims, execute works to restore critical services, develop pre-investment studies, and rebuild infrastructure.
