USD 100 million to help the population affected by the earthquake in Ecuador
The funds are aimed at the reconstruction of social infrastructure and housing, and to address the needs of the 7,900 families affected by the earthquake on April 16th, 2016
CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, granted a loan for USD 100 million to Ecuador to support the Government in the processes of helping and relocating the population affected by the earthquake, as well as for the reconstruction and recovery of the urban infrastructure and housing in the affected areas.
The financing, which will be executed by the Ministry of Finance, will facilitate the reincorporation of 7,900 families to their daily activities in the provinces of Santo Domingo, Guayas, Los Ríos, Santa Elena, Esmeraldas, and Manabí. The new settlements will be designed under a concept that will provide a comprehensive improvement of the urban habitat, which takes into consideration interventions in mobility and transportation, access to basic services, construction of housing, and adaptation of public spaces as essential factors that contribute to coexistence and social and economic development of the population.
Enrique García, Executive President of CAF, stated, "With this loan, we ratify CAF's commitment to the reconstruction of Ecuador, and we continue to offer our financial and technical support to contribute to the rehabilitation of the infrastructure, and improvements in the conditions of life of the inhabitants that suffered most from the earthquake of last April".
The new infrastructure will be more resilient in the face of possible occurrences of new disasters resulting from natural phenomena, reducing the risk of loss of human lives and of the national capital.
