Five Latin Americans from four countries are the winners of the 2016 Innovators of America Award
Company and industry, science and technology, education, sustainability and ecology, and social development are the categories intended to promote a new development model for the region
Innovators of America, with the sponsorship of CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, has the honor of announcing the winners of the Innovators of America Award in its third version. They will be awarded USD 50,000, a trophy, and certificate that identifies them as New Innovators in a ceremony to take place today at Casa de Campo La Romana, in the Dominican Republic.
The Social Development jury, which includes José Rogelio Vargas from Costa Rica, Judith Sutz from Uruguay, and Ulrich Frei, from Switzerland, chose Pablo Lecuona (Argentina) as winner with the innovation Tiflolibros - Biblioteca Digital para Ciegos (Digital Library for the Blind), Meeting and exchange network for people with visual impairment.
FosterJobs - Social network for human resources management, was the winning innovation in the Education category, represented by Matías Badano (Argentina). Juries in this category included Jorge Mora Alfaro (Costa Rica), Miriam Abramovay (Brazil), and José Ramón Pin (Spain).
Alejandro Imbach, Mark Halle, and Claudio Valladares, from Argentina, United States, and Brazil, respectively, chose Colombian Javier Mauricio Betancur in the Sustainability and Energy category with Helium: aprovechamiento de las paredes para generación de energía eléctrica (Use of walls to generate electricity).
In Company and Industry the award wen to David Proenza, from Panama, with his innovation Urban vertical farms: the agriculture of the future. The jury included Anibal Fossatti from Panama, Gonzalo Rivas Gómez, from Chile, and Mari Carmen Margelí, from Spainl.
In Science and Technology, the winning innovation was Método de Detección de VPH (Method to detect VPH), through a Colposcope of Actinic Light), presented by Mexican José Gerardo Zertuche. The jury included Argentineans Miguel San Martín and Rodolfo Echarri, and Spanish Pedro Moneo.
The award ceremony will be held today at Casa de Campo La Romana, in the Dominican Republic.
