CAF was present at the Second Ministerial Meeting of the OECD Regional Program for Latin America and the Caribbean held in Paraguay, which discussed public policies for the region to move towards new social policy models and create more equitable societies
Jorge Gärtner, Director-Representative for CAF development bank of Latin America in Paraguay, participated in the International Conference and Ministerial Meeting “Towards Inclusive Social Protection Systems in Latin America and the Caribbean” held in Asunción. Other guests included Horacio Cartes, President of Paraguay, Gabriela Ramos, Cabinet Secretary at the OECD, G20 Sherpa and Special Counsel of the Secretary-General, as well as Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD via videoconference.
This was the Second Ministerial Meeting of the OECD Regional Program for Latin America and the Caribbean (PRALC) established in 2016 to support the region in advancing reforms to boost productivity, advance social inclusion and strengthen institutions and governance.
The meeting discussed public policy approaches for the region to move towards new social policy models; increasing coverage, adequacy and fiscal sustainability of their social protection systems; seizing the opportunities of globalization and digitization trends; and restructuring public policies initially designed to combat poverty
“Paraguay has the objective of living in a society without extreme poverty and with equal opportunities for all. We therefore need increasingly efficient and transparent public policies to reinforce existing protection systems and improve conditions for the most vulnerable groups,” explained the president.
