CAF reaffirms interest in strengthening relationship with Mexico
The executive president of CAF, Luis Carranza, met with Mexican President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador to reinforce the multilateral agency’s commitment to support major issues regarding the country’s socio-economic development.
The executive president of CAF-development bank of Latin America, Luis Carranza, met with Mexican President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador to reinforce CAF’s interest in strengthening its relationship with the nation and promote projects that foster sustainable and inclusive development.
The issues discussed include support lines for the next six-year term and the tools CAF has available to contribute on key development areas, such as improvement of urban services in marginalized areas, such as the construction of new subway lines in the cities of Mexico and Guadalajara, as well as the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged by earthquakes, the implementation of a new nationwide digital strategy, the construction of comprehensive rural infrastructure that includes 300 rural roads, and participation in initiatives with the private sector in the area of innovation, production clusters, supply chains and support to microenterprises, among others.
CAF approved loans for Mexico in 2017 of more than USD 1 billion, 79% ($800 million) of which account for country-risk-related operations and 21% ($207 million) for non-risk operations and technical cooperation. Noteworthy is the first loan granted to the Mexican government, for USD 300 million, to help with the implementation of public policies to mitigate and adapt to climate change for compliance with international commitments undertaken by the nation.
