CAF-development bank of Latin America- has approved an immediate USD 200,000 donation in favor of Trinidad and Tobago to help deal with the devastating effects of floods and landslides that have struck the island in recent days.
In addition, the multilateral agency has ratified its willingness to provide funding to the country’s government to mitigate the effects of this emergency and restore infrastructure and services that have been hit the hardest.
“I wish to express our solidarity with the people of Trinidad and Tobago in view of the effects of floods and landslides that have affected much of the country, and have led to human losses, compromised infrastructure and utilities, and left hundreds of people homeless, in addition to widespread material losses. In light of this situation, CAF is helping the Caribbean nation recover as soon as possible,” said Luis Carranza, CAF executive president.
As part of its stand-by credit services to deal with extreme climate events, earthquakes, pollution accidents and epidemics in the region, CAF can approve loans swiftly and timely for its member countries, which include Trinidad and Tobago.
These funds can be used to assist victims, restore critical services, prepare pre-investment studies and rebuild infrastructure.
