Mexico gets ready to discuss the future of the governments in the digital age
Free registration is open to participate on March 11 in the seminar organized by CAF with the support of Agencia Digital de Innovación Pública (ADIP) of the government of Mexico City, to discuss how the transformation of the State can improve the quality of life of citizens, streamlining public services and integrity in public management.
Over the last decade, Latin America has furthered important innovations in digital transformation of the State, which have focused on digitizing government, streamlining procedures, expanding digital services, and opening data to facilitate the transition from an e-government to a digital government. This new paradigm calls for placing citizens at the core of public policy.
Digitization should become a determining factor to regain public trust with public and private economic stakeholders, to improve the quality of public services, reduce corruption and promote productivity, in order to close the regional competitiveness gaps.
Low quality of public spending and low productivity of public administrations are distinctive features of the region when compared, for example, to countries in Southeast Asia. According to a study by the consulting firm McKinsey in 2017, improving productivity of States could generate savings of around US$3.5 trillion every year.
CAF-development bank of Latin America-, with the support of the Digital Agency for Public Innovation (ADIP) of the government of Mexico City, will bring together leaders from government, the private sector, academia and civil society to discuss progress and challenges in e-government policy in the region and its digital agenda. The meeting will be held on Monday, March 11, at the Hilton Reforma in Mexico City, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The discussions will focus on the progress made and the current challenges in Mexico and in other countries in the region.
Panelists include the executive president of CAF, Luis Carranza; the head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum; the Coordinator of the National Digital Strategy of the Presidency of Mexico, Raymundo Artis Espriú; the head of ADIP, José Merino; the Mayor of Guadalajara, Ismael del Toro Castro; the executive director of the Agency of e-Government and Information Society of the Presidency of Uruguay, José Clastornik; the high adviser for Innovation and the Digital Transformation of the State of the Presidency of Colombia, Víctor Muñoz; the executive vice president of CORFO (Chile), Sebastián Sichel; and the deputy secretary of e-Government at the Ministry of Modernization in Argentina, Daniel Abadie; among others.
