US$50 million to improve quality of life in Pará municipalities
The funds will be used to manage solid waste, improve mobility and efficiency of local efforts.
CAF-development bank of Latin America- and the government of the state of Pará signed a US$50-million financing agreement to promote efficiency and sustainability in local initiatives of the state. The funds will be used in urban mobility infrastructure, communication technology, collection, treatment and final disposal of solid waste in cities in Pará.
The signing ceremony was attended by Jaime Holguín, CAF representative in Brazil, Helder Barbalho, governor of Pará, and Ana Rachel F. da Silva, National Treasury Comptroller.
“The program prepared by the state of Pará uses the best urban development concepts, such as integration of actions and interventions, a focus on proper solid waste management and improvement of public management. For CAF is an honor to participate in the implementation of a program of this type, in such an important region of the country,” said Holguin.
“This program will make a difference for millions of people in Pará, a region with little presence of government agencies, which has been occupied for decades without much concern for this issue. We expect to start implementation of the actions in the first half of 2019 and we will have close collaboration of municipalities, which are deeply involved in completing the projects and plans in the shortest possible time in order to promote together a major transformation in the cities of Pará,” said the governor.
The most relevant measures in the operation include the development of municipal plans for basic sanitation or implementation of selective urban waste collection and landfills. There will also be projects for drainage and paving of approximately 100 km of urban roads, in addition to the installation of about 1,000 kilometers of broadband fiber-optic cable. The initiative also includes supporting the preparation of Municipal Guiding Plans.
