CAF holds patent development workshop for Peru’s agro-industrial sector
CAF–development bank of Latin America–trained as many as 42 participants from the private sector, universities and research centers in a one-week workshop on the conceptualization of technologies focusing on the agro-industry sector.
The institution provided attendees from the agro-industrial sector with an Intensive Workshop on Accelerated Patent Development, which took place on May 13-17 and was sponsored by the Ministry of Production (Produce), and the National Council of Science, Technology and Innovation (CONCYTEC) and the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi).
The event produced a total of 42 technology concepts. The workshop featured CAF’s Accelerated Patent Development Method, which teaches participants to conceptualize technological ideas, as well as to research the design and to draft patent applications using international formats. As many as 24 workshops have been carried out in eight countries, generating more than 1,100 potentially patentable technological concepts across the region.
The training was provided by CAF staff and Incubba, the patent and technology incubator of Medellín’s EIA University. Dr. Yeison Montagut, an Incubba facilitator, said: “These workshops are vital, because it is not easy to gather more than 40 people during a week with a single purpose: to devise new technologies for Peru’s agro-industrial sector. All participants are experts in the subject matter and representatives of the main companies in the sector. For a country such as Peru, with its varied climates and regions, and the potential to produce large-scale agro-industrial products during most of the year, the development of disruptive technologies adapted to the nation’s conditions is necessary to guarantee an increased competitiveness of the sector globally.”
In order to continue developing and fostering innovation in Peru, Innovation Week - Agribusiness will take place in June, focusing on project management, changing culture, and innovation ecosystems. The call will be open until June 7. For more information, click here.
