US$150 million to improve Fortaleza’s education infrastructure
CAF—development bank of Latin America—signed a loan agreement with the city council of Fortaleza for the construction of schools, children’s education and sports training facilities, as well as basic sanitation infrastructure.
The US$150-million loan agreement signed by CAF and the City of Fortaleza will help develop projects and actions envisaged in the Education and Sanitation Infrastructure Program (PROINFRA).
The signing ceremony was attended by CAF representative in Brazil, Jaime Holguín, the mayor of Fortaleza, Roberto Cláudio and the National Treasury Comptroller, Suely Dib de Sousa, among other municipal authorities.
“This is a great example of a long-term project that seeks an integrated improvement in the quality of life of the population. With the projects in infrastructure and in the area of education we are bringing about a positive change in guaranteeing access to basic services and high-quality education for children and young people in the most vulnerable areas of the city,” said Holguín.
Mayor Roberto Cláudio highlighted the importance of the changes to be implemented in the city. “We will invest massively in the urbanization of precarious settlements and in the construction of schools and educational and sports facilities throughout the city, in a joint action involving the 26 regional administrations,” he said.
PROINFRA aims to improve the quality of life of the people of Fortaleza by providing public services in the areas of basic sanitation, drainage and education. With the funds covered by the agreement that was signed today we will build 29 full-time schools, 88 children’s education centers and 26 sports training facilities. We will also prepare and distribute informative material on climate change.
