CAF Donates USD 400.000 to Curb Coronavirus in Ecuador
In addition to this donation, aimed at ensuring the safety of people working in COVID-19 prevention, containment and care of patients, CAF approved a USD 50 million loan to strengthen the public health system’s responsiveness to the pandemic.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance will receive USD 400,000 from CAF—development bank of Latin America—to reinforce the national communication campaign for protection and prevention during this state of healthcare emergency.
In addition to these funds, CAF approved a USD 50 million credit line in favor of Ecuador to comprehensively strengthen the nation’s public healthcare systems, in their efforts to preserve the health of the population in a timely and expedited manner. These funds will be used to purchase medical equipment and supplies, with a view to improving safety of people working in the prevention, containment and care of patients affected by COVID 19.
“Ecuador’s efforts to contain and mitigate the pandemic are in the right direction, and at CAF we are happy to help with these quick and timely contributions that seek to reinforce the fight against coronavirus in the country focusing on prevention, containment and health care,” said CAF executive president Luis Carranza Ugarte.
As a development partner and following World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, CAF reiterates its support to shareholder countries in addressing this humanitarian emergency with initiatives such as those implemented in Ecuador, and the donation to tackle the emergency as efficiently as possible. CAF also has a countercyclical and rapid disbursement emergency credit line of up to USD 2.5 billion at the disposal to its 19 member countries.
