CAF to Provide Panama with Tools to Tackle COVID-19
CAF’s contribution will enable the Panamanian health ministry to advance its plan of action to address the spread of COVID-19 through the acquisition and installation of advanced adult, pediatric and neonatal intensive care ventilators to be distributed to various healthcare facilities nationwide.
CAF—development bank of Latin America—has announced the delivery of a humanitarian aid grant to Panama in the shape of non-refundable technical cooperation assets in the amount of USD 400,000, aiming to support the nation in the face of its declared national state of emergency caused by the rapid spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Panama’s health ministry will use the funds to purchase advanced adult, pediatric and neonatal intensive care ventilators to help improve medical attention for COVID-19 patients in an assortment of facilities nationwide, such as: Nicolás Solano Hospital (Panama Oeste, La Chorrera), Domingo de Obaldía Hospital (Chiriquí), San Miguel Arcángel Hospital (San Miguelito, Panama), Joaquín Pablo Franco Hospital (Los Santos, Las Tablas), Luis Chico Fábrega Hospital (Santiago, Veraguas).
CAF, an ally of Latin American countries for 50 years, expresses its solidarity in face of the health emergency impacting the world, and is following WHO’s protocols, reaffirming support to its members and making available a number of tools, including a contingent credit line of USD 50 million per country for direct support to their public healthcare systems and most critical sectors.
CAF has also offered a rapid emergency credit line of up to USD 2.5 billion that will enable authorities to provide a quick and timely response to mitigate the effects of COVID-19, help ensure continuity of business operations and economic upturn, in addition to the donation of essential supplies and support to the healthcare sector for USD 400,000 to Argentina, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Trinidad and Tobago.
