CAF Commits USD 350 million to Aid Panama Digital Transformation and Inclusion Strategy
The program aims to support the efforts made by Panama in implementing public policies and initiatives as part of the national strategic framework, aimed at the digital transformation of the state and economic development based on knowledge, internet connectivity and digital inclusion.
Under the Panama Digital Plan and the 2020 Digital Agenda, the Board of Directors of CAF—development bank of Latin America—approved USD 350 million in favor of the Republic of Panama, for the Digital Transformation and Inclusion Strategy Aid Program, which seeks to support the isthmus nation’s efforts to promote the digital transformation of the state and productive sector, as well as to close digitalization gaps.
“At CAF we promote the digitalization of the state and the productive sector to improve efficiency, boost competitiveness and improve equality in Panama and Latin America, through digital inclusion and the development of high-quality digital infrastructure,” said CAF executive president Luis Carranza Ugarte.
The program is aimed at recognizing actions in implementation of public policy and investment plans to bridge the digital divide and for the digitalization of the public and private sectors, specifically with the production and implementation of standards, plans, internal agreements and investments in the following axes: public policies for the digital economy; digital transformation of the state; development of digital industries; digital transformation for productivity; and deployment of connectivity infrastructure and digital inclusion.
This initiative is in line with the national strategic framework for transparency and digital modernization of the state, the advancement of e-government, knowledge-based economic development, internet connectivity and digital inclusion.
