Financial Capability Survey

Based on data collected from various surveys on financial capabilities in Latin America, conducted in Colombia (2013, 2019), Peru (2013, 2019, 2022), Bolivia (2013), Ecuador (2013, 2020), Chile (2016, 2023), Paraguay (2017, 2022), Argentina (2017), Brazil (2020), Panama (2022), Uruguay (2022) and Costa Rica (2023), we provide a dashboard that allows for sociodemographic segmentation. The resulting datasets from the survey are available for download, consultation and use. 

CAF’s Financial Capabilities Database contains information on more than 400 indicators since 2013, allowing for an in-depth analysis of the financial behavior of households across Latin America and the Caribbean. It provides key information on financial literacy, as well as ownership and use of financial products, planning towards personal financial goals, savings and investments for old age, and financial resilience in the face of contingencies and financial shocks. 

In addition, it includes questions regarding previous experiences with the financial system, financial literacy in key areas for financial management, and attitudes within households, as well as topical questions given the changing realities of the financial system, such as trust in digital financial services, the use of digital platforms and behaviors associated with the receptiveness to Open Finance. 

This information allows for the construction of indices following the OECD/INFE Toolkit for Measuring Financial Literacy and Financial Inclusion. These indices provide information on financial inclusion and capabilities, digital financial literacy, and financial well-being.
